Here, you will find details about the National Curriculum for PE and how we integrate PE into our learning journeys at Anston Hillcrest Primary School.

Our Goals

At Anston Hillcrest, we aim to inspire a lifelong love for physical activity and well-being through our PE curriculum (PE Planning). We provide children with opportunities to develop physical competence, confidence, and a healthy understanding of movement. Our approach encourages teamwork, perseverance, and a positive attitude towards both individual and group challenges. By participating in a broad range of physical activities, from competitive sports to cooperative games, we develop resilience, empowering children to lead active, healthy lives and embrace the benefits of fitness and well-being. Our PE curriculum aligns well with our school values.

Why?

Our PE curriculum not only enhances children's physical health but also equips them with essential skills for success both in school and beyond. Developing physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, and resilience is key to their holistic development. Our PE curriculum provides the foundation for this. Through diverse physical activities and sports, children build strength, coordination, and a love for staying active, ensuring lifelong habits of health and well-being while developing skills that may contribute to future opportunities in life.

Our PE Curriculum
At Anston Hillcrest, we are committed to providing a high-quality PE and sports curriculum that nurtures and grows our children's' skills and talents. We believe that physical education plays a crucial role in the overall development of every child, encouraging not only physical fitness but also mental well-being and teamwork.

Our school offers a wide range of sports and physical activities, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore different disciplines, from traditional sports to more contemporary. Through these opportunities, we aim to inspire our children to develop a lifelong love for physical activity, developing perseverance, resilience, and a sense of achievement.

Swimming

Children in Y4 engage in swimming lessons at our local swimming pool. Through the support of swimming instructors we teach children to:

-
Swim competently, confidently, proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
-
Use a range of strokes effectively.
-
Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations.
Engagement in Competitions
We actively participate in competitions both within school, across the Trust and wider into the community where we can develop of skills and knowledge in the world of PE and Sport. We have taken children to the grounds of Rotherham United to play in a borough wide tournament. Our whole KS1 also attended our feeder secondary school for an afternoon of multi-sports.

Extra-Curricular Offer

We offer a range of different sporting opportunities for our children. These adapt and changes across the year and will include opportunities such as dance, cheerleading, multi-skills and football.

Our Y6 children have the opportunity to experience a 3 day residential visit. During this time, the children engage in a number of sporting activities, some they would never ordinarily experience, broadening their physical skills and boosting confidence.
This 3 day visit builds teamwork, resilience, and independence, while encouraging our children to step outside of their comfort zone, enriching both their personal and social development.

Our School Grounds

Our school grounds are packed with great ways to stay active! We have lots of field space for running and games, an outdoor gym for fitness fun, and a trim trail to challenge balance and agility. It is all about keeping active and having fun outdoors.
Our Foundation Stage outdoor space also has a well developed space for the development of gross motor skills.

Adaptations
The PE curriculum at Anston Hillcrest for our disadvantaged children, including those with SEND is adapted through the use of modified equipment, visual supports, and inclusive activities.
Adaptive tools, like larger balls and other resources, support differing abilities.
Sensory activities, such as obstacle courses and movement games, engage children in physical activity. Sensory circuits form daily routines where this is necessary and the school has worked with sensory experts from the LA to upskill staff.
Clear instructions and the use of any visual prompts ensure participation and confidence, meaning all children can enjoy and benefit from our PE and Sports Curriculum.

This award recognises our commitment to the development of competition across our own school and into the community. Participating in this process allows us to evaluate our own PE provision and help us make PE and Sports even stronger across school.

We celebrate out of school sporting achievements with our children, this might be through them bringing in their certificates and trophies or by giving them the spotlight to share their successes.
