Our Special Educational Needs (SEND) Offer

At Anston Hillcrest Primary School, we celebrate every child for who they are. We are passionate about providing all children with the best possible education, in order to prepare them for all they can achieve. We want every child to ‘Make a Difference.’

We are committed to providing an inclusive and nurturing environment where all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), can flourish. Our goal is to remove barriers to learning, ensuring every child with SEND accesses a meaningful curriculum tailored to their individual needs.

We offer a wide range of enriching opportunities designed to build essential social and emotional skills, helping children thrive academically and socially. We are dedicated to building resilience and empowering our children with the confidence to navigate life’s challenges.

Early identification and intervention are key to our approach, and we strongly value collaboration with parents and carers. A close partnership between home and school is essential for the success of every child, and we welcome open communication to achieve the best outcomes for all.

Anston Hillcrest follows the Department for Education’s SEND Code of Practice (2014). We ensure that children with SEND are identified early, with personalised support plans developed and implemented to meet their needs. The level of support depends on each child’s individual situation, whether it is a learning difficulty, emotional or behavioural need, or sensory impairment.
Children with additional educational needs remain integrated within their class and receive tailored support through small group work or one-on-one assistance from a teaching assistant. For children requiring more extensive support beyond the school’s resources, we engage external professionals for formal assessments and, if needed, assist with applying for an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).

All children receiving additional support have individualised targets documented in a support plan.

Our SENCO, Mrs. V Divit, works closely with class teachers and parents to ensure each child has access to a broad, balanced curriculum.

The school also maintains strong partnerships with external agencies, including Educational Psychologists, Autism specialists, Speech and Language Therapists, Health Services, and the Learning Support Service, who assist during assessment and intervention stages.

Our Integrated Resource

Our Integrated Resource currently caters for 10 children, with a primary area of need of Speech, Language and Communication (SLCN). We provide a bespoke educational provision for children who have an EHCP and have been identified through the Local Authority speech and language graduated response pathway.

We work closely with the Speech and Language team, in order to make sure our children have a bespoke and individualised package of support that allows them to make the best possible progress. All our children with IR places are members of a mainstream class and access the IR provision at different points during the day, depending on their needs.

We strive to make sure our children leave the resource with strategies in place to support their communication needs, as well as building on skills needed for independence, in order to prepare them for adulthood.
